Krei Concept Store is the first Mexican concept store to present a fresh curatorship of international luxury brands, along with one-of-a-kind Latin American designers and sustainable fashion.

The concept for this store located in Tulum was based on a simple, clear and direct plan grid, generated by circles of 2.50 meters in diameter that meet at their tangents. This grid follows the same distribution as a series of metallic structural columns that were calculated to support the upper floor slab.

Being in a context of exuberant vegetation such as Tulum, a geometric element was designed based on arches, which in its figurative image resembles a giant mushroom. These geometric structures in the shape of giant mushrooms are the common thread of the entire store and seek to evoke a kind of forest around which the exhibition is distributed on walls and loose furniture. These structures were manufactured by local artisans, taking advantage of natural materials from the area.

One of these mushroom-like elements grows until it crosses the mezzanine slab and becomes the support of a spiral staircase that goes up to the upper floor. To accentuate the effect of the staircase growing from the ground floor, the same finish as the general floor is used and a hole is generated in the floor where indirect lighting and pebble stone are placed. This same gesture of subtraction from the floor is repeated in the truncated cone-shaped elements that serve to display the products.

The material palette was kept as simple as possible, using only wood and polished cement, so that the mushroom-like geometric elements would stand out and the displayed products would have a predominant visual hierarchy. For light, one layer is direct, to highlight the exhibition, and another generates indirect light on ceilings, walls and floors. The artificial light inside tells a story linked to the route: intense on the ground floor, almost twilight in the transition between floors, and quieter on the upper floor, where natural light takes the lead.

Outside, in the common areas of the commercial complex where Krei Concept Store sits, the aim was to blur the boundary between interior and exterior and draw the visitor in. Three structures of different heights and diameters were installed. They speak with the existing vegetation and, formally, with the mushroom-like structures found inside. One of them visually pierces the glass of the façade, breaking the boundary between outside and inside.
